Joe,

National is waiting for the arrival of some DUV steppers in calendar Q2 before it begins volume production at South Portland(The problems in Korea may move them up the queue). The comment that, "About the second half of 1998, we will transfer TSMC's process design rules over to our National facility" seems to indicate that chips they will be getting from TSMC will be based on 0.25 design rules. So I don't think National will be making many chips at South Portland in the interim, which explains the foundry deal with TSMC.

RE: Can Cyrix just switch entire production from 6x86 to MediaGX at IBM facility?

I have no idea what it going on with IBM or the terms of the "original agreement" with Cyrix. I do know IBM fumbled the ball in a big way by treating Cyrix so poorly, but now we have TSMC making chips, so IBM will quickly become irrelevant to National/Cyrix. There will be no good reason to continue the IBM/National foundry arangement towards the end of 98.
