Japanese Yen is tanking as we speak. 132.39 to dollar. This could be the implosion many worried about. Everyone is scurrying to buy dollars to pay off short term debts. Not good for overall market.

Worswick,
Sankar asked for a "blue chip" and the one I like is Sime Darby. I like them for a lot of reasons: Healthy balance sheet, clobbered recently with all the stocks in Malaysia, large diversified holdings (340 companies in 20 countries), will do well in the banking/credit crunch here as they pick up some banks in consolidation moves later this year (IMHO) and emerge stronger, are well positioned in some technology plays, have solid holdings in extractive and agricultural industries, and finally, are currently trading at 10 times earnings. Its the kind of company that gets beat down first in the flight and remeerges first when sensibility and recovery begin to show.
Best,
Stitch

OFF TOPIC: Personal stuff

Worwick,
only now playing the catch-up game. Acutally I went to Spain to see my Mom who lives there. The weather was quite gusty in fact (in Mallorca). But it was nice nevertheless.

<< What a stunning, great thread! >>

I'm under water 5'000 miles! I can't believe the interest in this. However, I really do not consider it a personal success It's the all the people who let this thread live.

Very good New Year to you and good investing! I always enjoy if I stumble upon your post on the other threads as well.

Thomas

P.S.: Where are you physically located? Maybe in Asia?
