Patrick, yes, I think the Algebraic would be better. Hey, we'll get this straightened out sooner or later.

I'm using the player vs. player mode on my computer so I can see how it lists the piece moves using the Algebraic method. According to it, (E2E4) your first move, would be P-K4. We are assuming Queen on her color, right?

My next move: P-K5 (E7E5)

I'll probably end up getting some cardboard strips and laying them along all four sides of a board I have set up just so I won't have to keep logging off and on to get the Algebraic from the computer.

So far, so good. Need clarification on how P-Q4 translates to (E2E4).

BTW, if this gets to be more trouble than its worth, just let me know. I've been away from a chess club for a few years now, so I've forgotten a lot. You know what they say, you don't use it, you lose it.
