Happy New Year, Christine!

Yes, 'tis true! Cars manufactured prior to 1973 will no longer require smog checks!

sfgate.com

Interesting article on clean air in Los Angeles. I grew up down there and remember the smog over the years. With all the environmental measures California has implemented, the smog there never went away; rather, it's look and feel has changed over the years. The smog in Los Angeles was probably my biggest reason for moving to Northern California. I was last in Los Angeles in 1994, and the smog was the worst I had ever seen it! I could hardly wait to get back to the SF Bay Area.

It should be noted that Los Angeles is a basin. It should be noted also that the California Indians made mention of the "smog" at least as far back as the 1700s! The smoke from their campfires seemed to hang in the air and stagnate. If the air in Los Angeles is indeed the cleanest it has been in 50 years, I would have to wonder whether the air quality was perhaps measured during the Santa Ana Winds!

Have I made any New Year's resolutions? Yes, I have! I have solemnly resolved to make no more New Year's resolutions--ever. <vvvbg>
