Zeev,

How about swallow? A bird or a gulp? foot? What's in your shoe or 12 inches. Same with yard. Why is a fisherman an angler? (comes from archaic angle meaning fishook, but has nothing to do with angles.
I guess there's a book of these somewhere, but these are just a few which pop into mind.

Further confusion: the name Colin. Why does General Powell insist on mispronouncing it as "COlon", rather than the correct (and far less absurd) "COLLin"?
