There is significant political support for export of Canadian oil.
I'd like to see the Energy East project go through and displace some of the currently imported oil with Canadian oil. If there's any left after that, it could be exported at fair market price. Currently it gets sold at a huge discount to the USA. That's what happens when you let players like Exxon Mobil, Conoco, Chevron, Husky etc. run amok with our resources.

Trudeau is too spineless to not bow to public pressure.

Trudeau is also stupid enough to think he can use Keystone for leverage.

wouldn't it be better if eastern Canada used Canadian oil and natural gas instead of importing it? Wouldn't it would be better if Canada gained access to the world oil market instead of being a captive to our only buyer and now competitor, the USA?

For those who don't know, 50% of XL capacity is dedicated to US production south of the 49th parallel. Of the 50% XL capacity dedicated to Canadian production, half of that is booked by Imperial Oil, an Exxon subsidiary. XL doesn't really do much for Canada. Pipelines to Canadian east and west coasts are what is really needed.

Trudeau is against the Gateway pipeline to Kitimat, and I will watch to see if the decision on the Trans Mountain pipeline due Mid December 2016, is delayed until after Trump is sworn in and approves XL, as it would give Trudeau an opportunity to deny approving Trans Mountain.

Canada is cooked without petro dollars coming into federal coffers
