Short story...Mom wants her first computer...Brother, the computer tech says buy a Compaq....Suggests 4808 or preferably 4824 as good entry level/price/not too quickly left behind machines. Compaq page shows Circuity City/Sears/Staples. Nada-no go-sold out. Staples has no 4824s in the state of Pa. Mom wants some CPQ stock. Three questions. #1 How long is it going to take CPQ to get these machines back out? #2 How much are they losing to others with only 166- and 266+ machines available in stores? Many can do all they wish with less than top of the line machines and unlike us will not wait for CPQ to restock. Granted the margins on these machines are small compared to upper range models, but better yours than someone elses. #3 At what price would you stockholders be buying now if it was your first buy? Pre-split/ post-split. IMHO long term it won't matter, but I would appreciate all of your thoughts. TIA
