Fermented cabbage is a great probiotic but it's quite a process to make. Only found one vendor who sells it. I've been on probotic capsules to control gut problems. They seem pretty effective overall.

20 or 30 gallon wooden barrel

Shred 100 pounds of winter cabbage into barrel in 6 inch layers, adding a handful of course pickling salt and a sprinkle of all spice over top of each layer.."" Muckahun "" or pound down each layer with hard wood pounder with long handle.. Don't be shy on the muckahunning . As the process continues more liquid appears.
Place hard wood board or boards cobbled together ,,over the mixture with boulder on top to press it down. Then cover with a cheese cloth.. Let her perk!and listen to yer nose.
