Koan, the problem is not any one of a myriad of tactical "mistakes" on the part of Hillary's campaign, or even Bernie or the independents. Its much more central then that, and unfortunately lies at the core of liberal strategy, including what you yourself have lobbied for in a few thousand posts here on SI: Ramming through liberal policies, in a country which is nearly 50-50. You were ever so hopeful just a few days back that the Dems would get all three branches of Gov and be able to achieve exactly that.

Trump is the signature achievement of Obama, specifically the result of how Obama governed. A classic example would be this year as the election loomed closer Obama used the Dept of Ed to try and force Federal control of the transgender bathroom issue on States. Trump is a reaction to what is seen by a huge swath of the population as liberal overreach on tangents when many feel that key economic conditions affecting them are being ignored. The ACA had the same problem, because although this one was of significant importance to many people, it passed on partisan lines.

Now we have the Reps in the position you fantasied the Dems being in: All three branches will be theirs, and they too will overreach and ram through their partisan fantasies. But there is YUGE difference. The liberal overreach is in expanding and building up government. That is far more difficult to achieve. The Rep overreach will be to dismantle government. It is easy for Reps to come in after a Dem Admin, and destroy in short order what was painfully built up over years or even decades. Once gutted, it is very difficult to rebuild. Just take for example selling off Federal assets (like BLM land). Once the land is sold, the next Admin can't get it back. If the Dept of Ed is abolished, it would be difficult to create it again.

So it pays for Dems when implementing Gov programs to make sure there is significant bi-partisan support, so that Reps later will not be so supportive of abolishing them. You are about to see what happens to Dem plans that had only partisan support when they were implemented. That is legacy of Obama...

Given that the Democrats running against the single most unpopular candidate in history and should have been able to win the House and Senate, I find your explanation quite remarkable. The DNC and the Super Delegates rigged the outcome in advance discouraging people like Elizabeth Warren and others from running. That is the root cause of this loss.
