You didn't mention the models of your modem or router but it sounds like you have a non wireless router. If it's a router with wireless you could always activate/deactivate the wireless function. If you want something to plug in/out for convenience here's a few links.

Regardless, wireless can be made to be pretty secure if that's your concern.

Josh, my router allows MAC filtering so that only devices specifically listed can connect to wifi.
It's an older 2Wire provided by AT&T u-verse
