GM,

Fancy meeting you here! I'm looking at putting some $ to work in this sector but have no idea what trends are developing, who'll be cutting edge 2-3 yrs. out etc. etc. I have heard of IBM's new technology which should double the capacity of HDD's if I am not mistaken. Who will stand to benefit most from this?

What do you think are the advantages of investing in say, a WDC versus an EMC. If I am not mistaken, WDC targets consumers while EMC targets those who need massive storage capacity such as corporations. Please forgive me (and correct me) if I'm waaaay off and don't have the slightest idea of what I'm spewing.

Have a couple of names on my shopping list. I hear that Quantum could possibly have leading edge stuff. Wanted to buy into WDC earlier in the year- Thank God I didn't- but am thinking of doing so now. They've been hammered recently-even more so in % terms than SEG I believe. It was my understanding that WDC was the leader in their respective category and SEG was an also-ran. However, in % terms, WDC has suffered much worse than SEG lately -is this pummeling warranted??? . Also, any opinions on SEG-(was mentioned in this weekend's Barron's)or RDRT? Am also looking into WDC and EMC.

TIA from someone who has much to learn of this industry,

Brian
