It is interesting, before I posted this map yesterday, I'd have a tough time understanding what you were talking about.

Now I know... sales tax is half in IL vs WI.

Amazon had a HUGE fulfillment center in 0% outside Reno, NV to ship to the 9.25% SF Bay Area but now the law says anyone above a certain size has to charge sales taxes....

So... Amazon acts sort of like EBay to take orders for many companies around the US outside CA then ship into CA without taxes directly from these other companies.

It is interesting as those smaller companies will get great volume today but if they are very successful, Amazon will eventually undercut them in price, perhaps building their own version in China and selling it on their platforms... and drive the smaller companies out of business.

If you are a smart shopper about it.... chuckle, you complain when Amazon ships you garbage or lower quality products and several times now I've been given full refunds and told to keep the low cost product!

For example: I took the time to complain that they advertised Duracell 3V Lithium batteries for my fitness devices in a 4-pk that usually have a long time until expiration but what they shipped looked much different, like OEM, with a very short time until expiration. They offered to ship me what I ordered with no shipping charge too.

Like Alibaba is aware of the counterfeiting and Amazon works to lower taxes.....
Oakland was well aware that all the "rules for those who pay taxes and can afford them" were too much for the "homeless artists" who threw raves to pay rent on their wharehouse.... there are consequences someday. I just hope we don't have to see so many die before "they" see how harmful excess regulations then ignoring them for some can be.
