Do you report your capital gains/losses on the sales? SOHO has been pretty good.

It seems like you manage the portfolio for income rather than growth. I think the growth stocks may/will do better in 2017. TIS continues to be my favorite in this category and they pay a good dividend too.

Do you have any other Growth stocks you like/own which have a compelling story and also pay a reasonable dividend?

EKS

So you are confusing me

You talk about your income goals and then you write, immediately after that, of share price declines in some of your holdings. I had a difficult time making the transition (whiplash?)

You wrote that VTR was down 11%; VTR just increased its dividend by 6.2%

Both are true, but the second is more important.

Steve, I always look forward to these summaries you post... I always learn something new and/or look at "old" known things differently... thx for sharing!

Monthly update: Wow, hard to believe it is seven years of just a common guy tracking what he is doing.
Major cuts early in the year didn't bode well for the income, but managed to go from $18,515 estimated
end 12/2015 to $20,984 currently, an increase of 13.3%.

Cash went from $5,143 a year ago to $22,123 this month end.

One reason I wanted to track is that everyone I have seen do it has stopped when things didn't go as expected.
If you have been around SI for years like I have, you have seen it plenty of times.

My philosophy is that it is what it is. Maybe I make some others feel better about their own investing.

Investment / CurrentValue / PriorValue / PeriodChange %Change /EstimatedIncome /EstimatedYield

Nov. Totals.... $315,925.15.. $320,753.75. ($4,828.60)........ (1.5)%.... $20,728.25.. 6.6%
Dec. Totals.... $335,357.17.. $315,925.15. $19,432.02.......... 6.2%..... $20,984.35.. 6.3%

YOC: 11.75% = $20,984 / $178,518

Income goal 1/1/2013: siliconinvestor.com 2018 $16,915
I have come to change that to $20,000 of income per year.
If I extrapolate out, on the original goal I am good until 2021:

2016 $15,350
2017 $16,110
2018 $16,915
2019 $18,099
2020 $19,366
2021 $20,721

S+P 500 2044 to 2239 =............ +9.54%
Nasdaq 5007 to 5383 =............. +7.51%

Since inception Jan. 1, 2010:

BRK.A 99,200 to $244,121 = ....+146.1%
Nasdaq 2269 to 5383 ............. +144.3% (includes total 7.07 yield for 2010 thru 2016 )
S+P 500 1115 to 2239 =........... +114.1% (includes total 13.33 yield for 2010 thru 2016 )
Dow 10428 to 19,763 ..............+105.7% (includes total 16.22 yield for 2010 thru 2016 )
My IRA $178,517 to $335,287 =. +87.81%

Bottom line, estimated income:

End Dec. 2010 $13,160
End Dec 2011 $14,836
End Dec. 2012 $17,371
End Dec. 2013 $18,563
End Dec. 2014 $22,093
End Dec. 2015 $18,514
End Nov. 2016 $20,728

End Dec. 2016 $20,984
