Thanks Steve, I'll look into them. My needs are very basic. Just a "word" version to save assorted facts and figures.

I opted for Abiword because it went right to a word processor which is all I need. I looked at Libreofffice but wasn't sure if I needed to download the whole program or could just download the writer. My question is do I now take all of the files I created with "Word" and cut and paste them one at a time to Abiword followed by saving them? Hate to sound dumb but I've been using word for probably 20 years and never had to do this until now.TIA

Libreoffice and Openoffice are both great, but Libreoffice does updates more frequently.

Also, Libreoffice is on most of my computers, but I save files in the Microsoft formats.
