Does this New British-English apply to spelling only, or does it include grammatical constructs as well?

Yes. Constructs such as "I be"--not limited to black English (must we call it "Ebonics"?), but also used in some parts of the American South--are archaic, once perfectly acceptable.

And I really, really like "might should" and "might could", which add nuance to uncertainty. Have no idea of their origins, though.

Then there's the venerable "ain't", perfectly acceptable on both sides of the Atlantic until the beginning of this century.
