Re: Futuretrak scanner..

Haven't seen this before.. Looks like a product that could save
the day for DISH if it is indeed running out of channel space on
I and II, but even so the solution could be messy..
If DISH has to start offering channels from Echo III,
then they'd need to do the following:

(1) partner with Futuretrak (or a competing company, or develop this
technology in-house), and sell the new receivers as part of its
standard offering, and once this is done,
(2) offer "upgrades" to existing customers... this could be huge,
requiring potential visits to over one-million-plus households to
upgrade dishes. I'm sure the time and labor involved could seriously
hurt the bottom line, unless they charged a lot of money for these
upgrades. And if they did charge lots of money, I'm sure the
DTV marketers would have a field day.

Yuck! Does anybody see a better workaround for this?

Dr. Harvey, the product you are referring to, is a self tracking dish with an intended purpose of maintaining a constant alignment from a moving object, such as buses, trucks,RV's and boats. Basically, you program the satellite you need to track, and it keep the dish in alignment at all times. It's possible, with some redesign, basically with software and integration with the DISH equipment, this *may* be a viable option. There is another company building the samed type of products as well datrondbs.com
Currently,Directv has program with commercial aircraft companies to use this technology to have DTV for in-flight viewing - Jeff
