If you don't count the debt and don't consider that we have reached the point in our deficits where they become untenable, i.e., where a slight increase in interest rates will make us unable to meet our obligations to pay interest only on the debt. It is a pretty terrible place for a country to be. I will agree that many countries are in bad shape right now. I'm not sure how that improves our situation.
