The American exporter does not pay the VAT, the purchaser in Germany pays it. The VAT that's paid by the consumer is the same for both domestically produced and imported goods. There's no competitive advantage for German producers. This is just Dump's way of twisting things to suit his Ultra-nationalist policies.

A VAT is a consumer goods and services tax. It's paid on all goods and most services. There's no distinction between imported or produced locally. It's the SAME as a sales tax on goods. They have sales taxes in America in many states. The CONSUMER pays the VAT, not the producer. I fail to see your logic on how a VAT makes imported goods less competitive than locally produced. They are levied the SAME VAT. Got it? I think you're confusing Tariffs with a VAT. Again Dump is twisting it to an issue in line with his "'murica first" policy. I understand what you're getting at, it's just plain incorrect.
