A USB to SATA converter is handy when you want to access files on an HD temporarily without installing the HD in a case.

Is it any faster using the SATA converter vs a USB case? Is there a power adapter like the cases have?

Ordered this for her plus one for me. It can also be used without the case.

I'm interested in testing whether the USB port alone will power a 3.5" hard-drive.

I also have a VANTEC USB 2.0 adapter that came with a separate power supply.

This is the USB 3.0 version of that.
