I pay, and always have paid, well above the going rate, but its definitely the case that the Hispanics who have been here for awhile try to get out of farm labor and into more steady (and better conditions) work. So yes, anything that sweetens the pot for farm labor benefits the local farmers, me included. My second worker for the last two years, didn't come back this year. He gets close to 2K hours, April - Nov at the food processing plant my other guy works at, and he doesn't see why he should work outside in the cold, snow, and wind, rain during Dec - March when he could just take it easy and get unemployment. So that is what he is doing this winter (per the other guy). He is single, and no kids however...
