It excels at eliminating noise aka chaos . It's important to realize that Multi-layered AI and pre-programmed Decision-Trees (logic) are two fundamentally different approaches to decision making. While AI may heuristically converge on the same answer as a logic-tree, logic-trees will often fail where AI succeeds. A practical example of this is Frank Luntz who in the world of focus groups identified the fact that wording is extremely important to predicting the outcome of decision making in authoritarian personalities because the words are value-laden in a non-rational way. So describing the exact same situation, series of events or a product, using twelve different wordings will result in twelve different conclusions or decisions. When Frank Luntz created the phrase "Contract with America ", most people "knew what that meant " even though Luntz demonstrated that when asked individually the meaning of his phrase meant something different to each person. Frank discovered wording which created the illusion of consensus which didn't exist. It's like the Obama campaign slogan "Change". It was a message without any consensus of meaning beyond free floating Hope. But Luntz is now sore because, in my opinion, Donald Trump is far better at messaging with value attached words and gestures. In a New York Times op-ed , on November 8 Luntz said the 2016 campaign had convinced him that “the greatest country in the history of civilization has become dangerously uncivilized.” While in October, he described Trump’s White House bid as an “ absolute joke .”I think these are very peculiar comments for a man who found the right combination of nonsense word combinations could be used to convey meaning. AI interacting with focus groups could do Frank Luntz's job far better and faster. Finding those non-logical value laden correlations is what statistical analysis is best at. Arguably Luntz's greatest achievement, Sarah Palin's incoherent "word salad" style of communication where she simply strung together a series of Frank Luntz created focus-group tested words she had memorized is no more civilized or less of an absolute joke than Donald Trump. Both Palin and Trump machine gun empty promises I would argue that Donald Trump is more connected to the real world and more capable of creating solutions than Sarah Palin could ever be capable of. Frank Lunz was beaten at his own game. So if my friend's description of the work of his colleague Dr. Robert Altemeyer is accurate . . . 1.) There are measurable defects in the structure of their thinking. 2.) Their decision making does not conform to the rules of logic as we know them. 3.) You cannot present arguments to them and expect them draw the same conclusions that you would... 4.) You cannot expect them to draw the same conclusions when presented the same arguments a second time . . . . I'm very confident that AI could easily find the signal, which are most likely "Luntz words " because as he summarizes Altemeyer saying, the key to their decision-making is not contained in logic. Self-programming AI doesn't apply human logic, like a human programmed decision-tree, so it find's the correlation when decision-tree logic fails.
