This is nonsense:

Politico never mentions, let alone fairly assesses, the possibility that the Democrats have drifted too far to the left, and need to take more moderate positions on the issues.

The Dems have failed because they deserted their natural supporters and joined the neo-liberals, globalists, or new world order or whatever you want to call it. They did capture the education systems and a big chunk of the national regulatory bureaurocracy, supported and lived off the spoils of outsourcing and fiscalization, and entrenched themselves behind race baiting and special interest ethnic/racial politics.. Then they spent two decades talking down to their former supporters intimidating them with new ostracism of the PC tyranny.

That's what has lost them support over such a wide area of the country. The "Left" in Europe is suffering the same decline for the same reasons.

(The Republicans, some of them, did the same thing but were rescued by the Tea Partiers and Trump).

Dems are in the wilderness because all they have to offer is more government - and wealth redistribution. The latter, paradoxically, increases financial inequality, and has other negative consequences.

During the debates, Hillary explained that as Prez she would raise taxes - but, of course, only on people who make over 250K. It's the same old idea - take from Peter to bribe Paul.
