But Trump has blamed immigrants for everything that is wrong with America. Isn't that a joke? And the people who voted for Trump in WI, MI and PA who turned this election around, all they care about is a good paying job. And they do think (with Trump), that "immigrants and NAFTA took our jobs away". I would caution everyone reading this thread to not underestimate what people truly care about. Saying that "all they care about is a good paying job" is a bit unfair. Very likely, it's #1 or 2 on their list but to dismiss a large portion of Americans' cares is going to be a big mistake by anyone trying to run against Trump in the next presidential election. In 2004, I counseled a woman who was distraught after Bush was reelected. She uttered the standard line: "I'm seriously thinking about moving to Canada". My suggestions and advice at the time was to take her anger and frustration about the way politics were working in America and do something about it. Action, not talk. As I explained to her on that day (and I've used this many times since), the pendulum swings in both directions. At that moment in time, the pendulum was far to the right but that it's not inconceivable that 4 years later, there could be a monumental change in the face of US politics. Never in my wildest dreams did I even think that we would have elected an African American in the very next election. I certainly thought a woman was possible but I feared that there simply was too much prejudice in the country to have someone like Obama elected. Well....the rest is history. Fast forward. Americans, as a rule, are relatively simple people. We stand for, and fight for, a lot of complicated things but as a generality, most people view the world of politics from a position of "how does it affect them". Look simply at the 2 slogans from the campaign and I think we can see one of the reasons Clinton lost. "I'm with her" vs. "Make America great again". Really? That's the best the Dem's could come up with? Not "Change you can count on" or "Yes WE can" but "I'm with her"????? Narcissistic at best, idiotic at worst. It would have been better to say "It's time for a woman to be president". Even that would have resonated with many more American voters. Not sure any of this is "Leftist"..... Good luck with the thread. I'll monitor it from time to time....
