The public does not get it unless they have experienced it..

I have never been to war.. I did move from a tough inner city neighbourhood to a suburb.. Immediately challenged by local bully.. Honestly I avoided contact at recess and after school for three days until I could not due to a dental appointment ... The bully was much bigger than I.. I 10 he 12.. I had skipped a grade and was not big.. he had failed one and was.. consequently same grade ... I knew the showdown would come.. He lived around the corner .. I was no wuss where I came from nor a tough guy ... just able to hold my own.. a lower income area and spent a lot of time in the Mtl slums where the family biz was (Chinatown) but this guy was magnitudes larger.. and not fat I mean... Anyway he caught me 3/4 the way home day 4.. we wrestled etc and he presented his face at one point.. I started wailing on him clenched fist (that was how it was where I came from) ... thinking to myself WTF is he doing .. In my mind I was fighting for my life... He is just letting me pound him... I realised the burb kids were ALL bluster no real experience .. In all my years in that neighbourhood (school zone) I only saw one real other fight and that was between two friends :)) I had mashed up that kid's face pretty badly and got into trouble.. meanwhile I only heard chants and congrats from other kids who had been bullied.. The fight ended with a lady (homeowner) pounding on my back with her broom as it was spring and we were messing up her lawn LOL Didn't hurt.. was that elder respect thing :)) Funny though after that.. tough kids just gave me a nod.. no hassles.. so that was good.. Fighting is a last resort..

but yeah I felt bad for the kid.. even though he likely would not have reciprocated.. In the heat of the moment you do what you do.. but only a monster feels good about it...
