The police came out and refrained from doing anything, instead told him he could 'take care of it himself.' It was on a weekend ... try to call county offices then.

Armed Hollywood Homeowner Gets Front Row Seat to Active Break-in

Posted at 11:52 am on February 2, 2017 by Jenn Jacques

Imagine being inside your home and seeing this on your front porch: a home intruder actively trying to pry open your front door. That’s exactly what one homeowner in Hollywood, FL saw Wednesday morning.

The attempted break in, which was caught on the homeowner’s surveillance camera, shows the suspect actively attempting to pry open the front door of a home in the 4200 block of Polk Street shortly before 8:30 a.m. Failing to breach the entrance, the suspect then moved to the side of the home where he attempted to jimmy open a window.

The homeowner was in the house at the time of the attempted break-in and, fearing for their safety, armed themselves with a firearm. The homeowner fired a round at the suspect, causing him to flee the scene on foot.

Authorities do not know if the suspect was hit by the homeowner’s shot, but are still searching for the man at this time. Anyone with information about the incident or who can identify the man shown on the surveillance video is asked to call Hollywood Police at 954-967-4411.

Utah Man Shoots Mountain Lion to Save Neighbor’s Pet

Posted at 4:07 pm on February 1, 2017 by Jenn Jacques

A Cedar Fort, UT man said he felt compelled to draw his weapon and shoot a 150-pound mountain lion that was attacking his neighbor’s 10-year-old black lab Thursday night.

“I’ve lived here all my life and that was the first cougar I’ve ever seen in town,” said witness Ken Strickland.

“He had that poor old dog down and pretty well chewed up,” Strickland said. “And he was not scared of nothing; I mean, usually you run into a mountain lion he is going to take off, that one was not going to give up that dog. So I went over to my nephew’s over here because I knew he had a gun right close to the door.”

Strickland’s nephew fired three shots at the cougar. Severely injured, the cat limped down the street into a neighbor’s yard, where it died. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said mountain lions venturing into neighborhoods is uncommon, but this cat was old and in poor health.

“I’m sure because of the poor health of this cougar it probably decided to go after something a little bit easier than deer,” said Scott Root with the Utah DWR.

“If he gets down here like around those kids right there, he could take one of them in a heartbeat,” Strickland said.

“There was a cougar that was in somebody’s yard, and their dog was missing and their owners found the tracks and some blood, so this cougar may have even taken two dogs,” Root said.

Unfortunately, the neighbor’s dog did not survive the vicious attack, however the man who killed the mountain lion in an attempt to safe the family friend won’t face any criminal charges. Utah DWR said because the man shot the animal in an attempt to protect a pet, the shooting was justified.

[ Shep's solution to mountain lion attacks .... call the police. Or animal control or somebody. It's their job. ]
