2010 statistics bottom of recession.

Wages are much lower here than in Texas, comb. Our cost of living is also lower.

As for more food stamp usage here, probably so. Poverty rates are what determine who gets the different freebies. Poverty rates are set on average rates for the whole country. What I mean is that people can actually live here with income levels at or close to what's considered poverty rates without really being impoverished. This is a long way of saying that food stamp usage is probably abused here. All people will take freebies. I saw this when hiring a variety of caregivers to take care of my mother. All of them getting something even though they were living middle class lifestyles in terms of cars, clothes, and homes.

My favorite was a woman whose husband was on SSID---bad back. The guy was a fat slob and had the coloring and look of a heavy drinker. I had people coming in for my mom's birthday and the yardman canceled out. I asked the caregiver if her husband could help out and she started in on his back, blah, blah. I said tell him I'll pay $150 if he comes and just mows. The weedeating can wait a week.

He came and had the balls to ask if he could come the next week.

Of course I know the sad history of African Americans, and there was a time when I could have outdone any liberal with my own 'bleeding heart'. I've pretty much lost patience now. I could give you hours of stories about blacks that we've hired and fired through the years relative to our ownership of rental properties and our farming interests in eastern Arkansas. We've been lied to,cheated, and taken advantage of. We gave up about twelve years ago and turned to white workers while we divested of most of the need for hired help.

We've had great experience with Hispanic help. I don't know what the answer is for black people but my sympathies are worn thin. I wonder sometimes when I listen to liberals if they even have black friends. I say this because my own middle class black friends, some of whom I've known since college, are as critical as I am. They put their own children into private and religious schools to get away from lower class free-loading blacks. It's a culture thing now, comb. To reduce everything to racism is naive.

>>Whites have only about half of their population on Medicaid, compared to Arkansas which is closer to 80% of the white population is on Medicaid.

If you don't mind can you tell where exactly you found these data for Texas?
