Strange report from Dow Jones Newswire.

Compaq, the world's top PC maker, will unveil 15 new
Presarios Tuesday, with three desktop machines and one
notebook powered by the K6. One notebook computer,
priced below $2,000, will run on chips made by Cyrix
Corp., a unit of National Semiconductor Corp. (NSM),
according to a source.

Still, most of the computers will use Intel's Pentium II
chips.

The entry-level desktops will run on a 200-megahertz K6
chip and cost about $799 without a monitor, which should
cost about $200.

Guess we will see the product line-up tomorrow, but I would bet the $799 model is GX based, since we've seen a bunch of leaks saying so.

We shall see.

Bob

Here is an article about vendors phasing out 166MHz chips. It's from CRN but has yet to make it to TechWeb.
