I have crossed paths with so many people who laughingly say, I used to be a Catholic or some religion. Often times these people have unofficially converted to some sort of Human Secularism and don't detect any problems with that. Some have become extreme in their anti-religionism, like you. Mostly, I see people coming and going with regard to religion with minimal discomfort, usually compensated by whatever they are moving to. Yes, the disapproval of friends can be hard, but people deal with that in all aspects of life when moving between groups or taking a position that disappoints a friend. It's a concern for most people and a very real element in how people approach daily life.

The way you put it bothers me. I don't care if people live a religious life style. It doesn't hurt me, and it doesn't appear to hurt children, except maybe by restricting their involvement in some mainstream activities, some of those activities being harmful themselves. I see lots of hurtful lifestyles everywhere I look but I tend to leave each to their own, as long as they aren't oppressing me with it. I see lots of life choices which are far more harmful than a Sunday school prayer. I find PC dogma to be oppressive, so I occasionally call that out but not a whole lot of other things that others choose for themselves.
