Not a defeat just reality knocking at the door

Intel seems to me to be moving the MMX out the door ASAP. I think their attempt to dumb dowm the PII to go after the low end is the old PC JR approach and will not work. They need to move the PII 300 down in price faster to get it into the $1K to $1.5K segment and go SLot II for the server end.

That's it. That's all they can do. Its Price/performance.

Gary,
I told everyone here that the MediaGXm notebook would be THE blockbuster product. Unfortunately, for the powers that be at Cyrix, they forgot to make enough MediaGXs so that Compaq could still use them in the desktop line. So Cyrix gets a trade off because they are slow to the fab.

Gary, I don't think all Presarios will be non-Intel,I think it is just some models (?). I don't think it is a real defeat for Intel as non-Intel's are the low-end pcs.Perhaps a minor and temporary set back, temporary because Intel will have the low end Pentium chips by the end of this year,i think, then they will have products to cover all the categories. Hell, they are selling Pentium PCs for a 1000 bucks in China, and in India Intel has more than 90% of the market share.Remember these two markets are potential gold mines in the coming years.Oh, and besides,it is not fair for Intel to get 100% of the market share.
