Paul -

The companies I deal with,...to numerous to list here all have the y2k problem firmly under control and have been and continue to perfect their fixes.

From what aspect do you deal with these insurance companies... internally: dealing directly with their systems... or externally: using the 'products' they produce.

And by what means of proof is the problem 'under control'... their word? What's been their historic track record of delivering BIG software projects on-time?

It's pretty apparent to anyone that these companies will not ever approach the earning or values that have been touted.

You'll certainly not find me debating the finer points of the validity or not of market 'valuations'... I know a rabid, schitzophrenic mad dog when I see one.

planes will fall from the skies

I seriously doubt if this will happen... the chances of all the needed logistics support systems working correctly are pretty slim at this point, so putting the planes into the air probably just won't happen.

One the other hand, have you heard the story (tad hard to verify) of the first time the YF12/XR71 flew south of the equator, it flipped on it's back due to a wrongly signed navigation bit... natuarally I've got no way to prove this story, but I suspect there's more than a grain of truth there.
