No problem. I love this low to mid leve stuffl. High volume, big profits, record high stock price ($35.35 and rising), increasing share, etc. That and ATI's market cap is four or five times as large as S3's right now. And you know, we're still as terrified of our competitors, including S3, as ever.

Paranoia, I enjoy ya!

Mark, Stocktalk, et. al,

Crus may be the one S3 is pursuing but someone told me that Creative Labs is looking for a suitor. Creative used to be in bed with CRUS but with their (CRUS's) recent demise in the mainstream graphics business there may be some credance to this. Also, Creative has a strong software development group that may be worth the cost just for that.

Cirrus mentioned a workforce reduction in its graphics division in a recent SEC document. That casts some doubt on the Cirrus scenario.
BTW Compaq announced its Presario line-up for 1998. All non-PII models use an AMD processor and a S3-Trio64V2. Interestingly, the lowest-end model does not use the Cyrix MediaGX, so it also has the S3 graphics chip (with 1MB video memory -- what a joke). All PII models use the ATI Rage Pro.
