I like apprentice programs. Heck, my summer job at HP was essentially an apprentice job to learn analog IC design which takes about 10 years after getting a degree in it to learn from others with more experience. What I don't like is the expectation from many that the government should have anything to do with them other than allowing schools to give some credit towards graduation for kids in high school to work half time from 1PM to 5PM during perhaps their last year of school.
