I've never had an Italian tourist come up to me and ask me in perfect Italian if I spoke Italian. Why? Because first of all, they probably speak enough English to get by on an American vacation. One of the endearing things about Italians is that they're for the most part lousy linguists, just as we are. Most of those I know really DO have a touching belief that in any city with a population of more than 10,000 souls they'll easily find one who speaks Italian. It never works, of course, but they manage somehow. And here they're thrilled if foreigners try to speak the language, however badly.

Another county heard from. I see, insult me as well. You know exactly why I called them Frogs....they were insulting an 82 year old woman who happened to be my mother. It means little to you that you may single out the one in one hundred (or less) that follows your rule. penni did follow my rule of the French....she immediately posted her own version of the truth on another thread as I guessed she would. She said I said she was not nice....when in fact it was she that said I was not nice...at best she said I was argumentative. You and she seem to engage in pretzel logic. I did not insult either of you yet you manipulate the message to appear I had. I find you showed up purely as as result of her frog post....you are only here to defend. This follows in line with what penni said about posters on SI. First she declares something to be a fact....then she posts a conciliatory remark, then an accusatory one. When she cannot provoke me with the accusatory remark she manipulates the truth elsewhere and gets you to stick up for her. penni is more in line with those posters she purports to hate than she lets on.
