"You know exactly why I called them Frogs....they were insulting an 82 year old woman who happened to be my mother." No, to tell the truth I don't know exactly why you called them Frogs. That's your call, not mine. In what similarly adroit and culturally adept manner would you have handled it if they were Israelis? Italians? Africans? Mexicans? Good God, The French have no monopoly on lack of manners. Nor is it a universal national trait, as you went to some lengths to imply. I've managed to meet ill-bred people from all those places. I did not insult you, as you state in your first sentence. Nor did I accuse you of insulting penni, as you imply further down. Far from it. I simply took issue with your statements, stating that you were guilty of the same thing that you were accusing penni of, and particularly I took issue with your use of a quasi-racial slur, regardless of the rationalization you present for using it. Disagreement is not insult, and claiming you have been insulted is a poor defense."It means little to you that you may single out the one in one hundred (or less) that follows your rule." Now this I find truly interesting. On what authority are you speaking? Especially in terms of so meticulously quantifying it, which I have not sought to do? As for me, I've visited twenty three countries and spent more than two years of my life vacationing, working and living in places where they don't speak English. I've come into contact with hundreds of Americans, "ugly" and otherwise, under those circumstances. I speak fluent German and Arabic, quite passable Portuguese, Spanish, and French, and enough Russian to find the bathroom. So, if I remark on what I observe in terms of American behavior in other lands, it comes from what I believe to be a credible level of experience.
