How reliable is a book to bill of greater than 1.2 if those who are booking can't pay? If revenues are 240,000,000 this quarter are those good revenues or are they potential write-offs? I figured A/R and Inventory were high but company had indicated they were up for competitive reasons. I guess all the bond holders are not too happy since their conversion may not be met. Also perhaps the amount to be spent on expansion will drop to 200 mill since Asian currency drop by 50%. Good Technology but management gambled and lost. I guess those of us who hold the stock sure know the meaning of "LONG TERM INVESTOR"

To everyone:
I suspect (hope) that some bad news is already in the stock price. If
the stock does not drop sharply tomorrow it will be obvious that the
institutional community was notified of this dreadful news. If Wall
Street is as surprised as I am the stock will get hammered tomorrow.
Hopefully, this is the last time that I will ever ignore a build up
of receivables or inventory and assume that it is an aberration. I am being punished severely for my stupidity. Management should also be
commended for their excellent work of keeping the shareholders in the
dark throughout the quarter.

Wes: Atmel was halted, then resumed at 5:18 pm with no trade

I read the news. It contains some negative and positive messages.

Charge for account receivable, inventory, and France plant: result in loss---negative, but a smart move.
Book to bill to exceed 1.20--positive
Q1 98 to have moderate growth (with assumption) --positive
98 outlook uncertain, but company believes to grow faster than industry average--positive
Reduced 98 capital expenditure--positive

The stock already took a beating. I don't think it will drop steeply from here. The cat is already out, and the stock may go up from here. This is my opinion only. Let's see how the stock goes tomorrow.

Praying.

Tom
