You are romanticizing ignorance in that post. This idea that things were better in the past. They were never better in the past. As Steven Pinker said, this is an era of the least violence the world has ever seen.

The problems that you point to, ironically, are problems of ignorance i.e. overpopulation and destroying the earth and nuclear proliferation.

If you look back in history, when the ancient Greeks developed language and wrote books, that is when they started to push down myths and replaced them with concepts like democracy and ethics and the rule of law.

The rule of law, democracy and ethics all came out of education. If you look at the world today it is very clear that the countries with the most educated populace generally are the happiest and the countries with the least educated populace are the least happy.

But on top of that, as I posted many times, I believe it is the human species manifest destiny to move forward, not retreat to a subsistence lifestyle.
