Koan, you linked a study that says they spend far less in Finland on education and achieve more. So I said great lets spend less and try that. Why is it people always want to say "hey thats great, I know they spend less but we should spend more and achieve less." We already spend more on education then nearly every developed country including Switzerland and our students perform far worse and yet your answer is we should have given them an extra 6 trillion. I think not. The reality is if you want the Nordic social systems here in America it is going to cost a lot of money and more money then just taxing the wealthiest Americans. Once you take the massive sums of money from the wealthiest they won't have it to invest so guess what every following year there will be less for the government to take from them. The reality is for it to be sustainable we have to tax everyone at a higher rate even the poor but I don't hear the politicians that advocate for the nordic system going out an being honest. Yes we could have that system but we will have to pay for it. And if we reduce defense spending, as one of the largest employers of the non college educated we better have a social structure or economy in place to absorb that.

If people want to move towards a nordic social system then the people that want it need to start convincing that vast majority of Americans that everyone better be ready to pay a lot more.
