Hi Mark, went to the Apple store tonight looking for fast 4 or 9g scsi drives but couldn't find them. I thought they were available as of today.

Secondly, how do you think the charge for QT Pro is going to fare in terms of producing revenue?

I don't think the $29.95 per copy of QuickTimePro will make much difference. Apple said that there are 2 million copies of OS8 out there. (from upgrades, new purchase, hardware bundles..etc) and yet it's direct impact on Apple's financial health was minimal. QTPro is for content creators which make up a small fraction of the total number of users. On the positive side QTPro will be available on Wintel.

It seems like QT 3.0 has some pretty cool technologies built-in and Apple will continue to make improvements in order to make QT the time based media standard in the industry. I don't think Apple intend the QT Pro to be a profitable venture but apparently Jobs feels that there are plenty of content creators out there that would pay for it. Why give it out for free when we can charge them for it. At least it'll pay for some of the engineering effort that's gone into QT over the years.

Apple has been reluctant to ask $ for QT because it fears that it will hamper in QT becoming the industry standard. What Jobs has done is to first demonstrate the superior capability of QT, hype it and then ask people to pay for the R&D. It makes a lot more sense then giving it away for free.
