Armed robbery suspect, 15, dies after being shot by off-duty customs agent in Arcadia, authorities say

By Melissa MacBride and ABC7.com staff

Saturday, May 27, 2017 11:52PM

ARCADIA, Calif. (KABC) --
A 15-year-old boy died after being shot by an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent who was allegedly attacked by the armed teen and two accomplices Friday evening in Arcadia, authorities said.

The teen, identified as Pasadena resident Darius Smith, was pronounced dead at a hospital Saturday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. A second suspect, age 14, remained hospitalized with gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening.

The incident was reported at 8:13 p.m. Friday in the area of First Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, said sheriff's Deputy Caroline Rodriguez.

The customs agent was walking on a sidewalk when he was attacked from behind by the boys - two 14-year-olds and Smith, authorities said. One of the assailants allegedly repeatedly struck the agent in the head as another pointed a gun at him and demanded his property.

"The victim thought the subjects were going to rob and shoot him so he retrieved his department-issued handgun," Rodriguez said. "The victim shot at the subjects in an effort to defend himself."

According to investigators, the armed teen and one of his accomplices were struck by the agent's gunfire. The third boy, who was unharmed, fled the scene on foot.

The agent suffered bruising to his face but did not require medical attention. The agency has not commented or released the name of the agent.

The wounded suspects each sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were transported to a hospital.

Arcadia police officers recovered a handgun allegedly held by Smith at the scene, deputies said.

The boy who ran from the scene was subsequently found at a nearby home and taken into custody. He was booked at Central Juvenile Hall in Boyle Heights on suspicion of robbery.

The two 14-year-old boys' identities were withheld due to their age.

[ CA gun control laws working ... 14 & 15 yo criminals have guns. Knowing they're minors makes more likely to kill a victim too btw. ]

Burglar shot 3 times by homeowner

Second time house has been broken into in months

By Melody Vallieu

WEST MILTON — A burglar found himself with three gunshot wounds after breaking into a home in the 4600 block of Kessler-Frederick Road early Monday morning.

According to Miami County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Eric Lachey, a call came in from a woman homeowner at approximately 5 a.m. Monday that they believed someone was in their home. While the woman was on the phone with 911, her husband went to the garage and encountered a burglar, Lachey said.

“The homeowner had a gun and was confronted by the burglar and shot him,” Lachey said.

The male suspect was shot two times in the leg and once in the hand, according to Lachey. He said the man — who has not yet been been named — is in Miami Valley Hospital, and was having surgery Monday for a shattered femur.

Lachey said as there was no sign of forced entry, they believe the male suspect entered the home through a “doggie” door.

Lachey said this is the second time in a matter of months this home has been invaded.

He also said they believe this suspect could be linked to a string of issues in the area. He said for months, in the area of State Rout 571, National Road and Kessler-Frederick Road, there have been been numerous reports of suspicious activity, people lurking and home and car break-ins.

“We’re hoping that comes to an end now,” he said.

Charges are pending and the investigation continues, Lachey said.

Man shot, killed during home invasion

MondayPosted May 29, 2017 at 11:33 AM
By Natalie Stewart The High Point Enterprise, N.C. (TNS)HIGH POINT — A man was shot and killed early Sunday morning during what police say was a home invasion.

Police responded to a home invasion at 1716 Candlewood Court just after 3 a.m., according to a police department news release.

Investigators determined three men forced their way into the house and exchanged gunfire with a man who was inside the house, police said.

Christopher Lamont Gidderon, 21, was shot and killed. Police said Gidderon was one of the suspects who unlawfully entered the house. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

High Point Police Capt. Tim Ellenberger said the three men kicked in the door of the house and started shouting, “Where’s the money; where’s the money?”

Ellenberger said the boyfriend of the resident was at the house during the home invasion and armed. He said the man returned fire at the three men after they invaded the house.

Ellenberger said police do not believe it was a random home invasion.

Police said the investigation is still in its early stages and no charges had been filed as of Sunday night. No other information was available Sunday.

The homicide marks the ninth killing in the city this year, and the most High Point’s seen since 2008 when there were 11. Last year, there were seven homicides.

16-Year-Old Armed Robber Shot, Killed in Chicago

[ Boy the Chicago and CA gun laws work so well. 14, 15, 16 yo's doing armed robberies. ]

The reality of Chicago’s gun problem just keeps getting more vivid.

According to a statement from Oak Park police, a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed by a concealed carry permit holder this weekend.

The suspect was armed when he approached a man in a bank parking lot
near Madison Street and Austin Boulevard in the west suburban suburb of Oak Park at approximately 11:15 a.m. and tried to rob him at gunpoint Saturday. The man, a 24-year-old with a valid Illinois conceal-carry permit, drew his own weapon and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who ran to a getaway vehicle that fled the scene into Chicago.

An off-duty officer was in the area and detained the man, who was cooperative in the police investigation of the armed robbery.

Police said the suspect was brought into Stroger Hospital in Chicago, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.

Five people were killed and 44 wounded in shootings over Memorial Day Weekend, a grim improvement over last year’s total of 7 killed and 61 injured.

The incident is still under investigation although no charges have been filed against the man who allegedly shot the suspect in self-defense. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact police at (708) 386-3800. Anonymous tips can be left at (708) 434-1636 or oak-park.us/crimetip.

mysanantonio.com

[ What kind of person thinks take your son to work applies to home invasion? This is sad, but really this boy might be better without this guy in his life. ]

SAN ANTONIO — An alleged home invader who had his young son with him was shot and killed Friday at a Northeast Side home during a break-in attempt, according to police.

Officers responded to the shooting around 1:40 p.m. in the 6300 block of Aspen Farm, where they found the suspect suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The suspect's son, who is around 7-years-old, was detained by police at the scene.

"We're gonna get help for him," said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.McManus said the suspect, a man in his 30s, was shot as he attempted to break-in through the front window of the home. The window led into a bedroom where the homeowner was sleeping.

The break-in attempt startled the homeowner, a woman in her 30s, and she grabbed her firearm and shot at the suspect twice, striking him at least once, police said.

Paramedics transported the suspect to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The homeowner is currently not facing any charges, though the incident is still under investigation.

Kingman burglar killed by armed home owner:

A suspected home intruder was shot and killed early Saturday evening after he chose the wrong home to break into.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said the suspected home intruder broke into a Kingman, AZ home near Roosevelt Street and Jagerson Avenue armed with a stun gun. When he encountered the homeowner at approximately 7:30 p.m., the suspect used the stun gun several times on the man and began robbing the home unimpeded.

What the suspect wasn’t counting on was that his victim would be able to defend himself. The homeowner was able to obtain a firearm and shot the home intruder in the process of burglarizing his home.

The homeowner called police to report the burglary and shooting. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not released the identity of the homeowner and confirm he has not been charged at this time. The incident is still being investigated but appears to be a clear-cut case of self-defense.

Since the President said he'd withdraw from Paris Accords, I'm giving him 12 hours off ... accordingly I hit the armed citizen defense stories hard to make up for that.

I don't like that re-entry thing he kept talking about though.
