TA I'm long, and hope to qualify for the low rate by holding 18 months!! The S word is just a thought. But I can assure you that many other longs (some right here!) will have the same thought. That is, precisely, what makes it so attractive. The trading strategy I outlined is a "straddle." And it avoids the time-premium cost of using options to create a different type of straddle. The goal is simple: making more money than Buy&Hold. David P.S. I'm sure that all the "tax pros" are working now. There will be plenty of answers later tonight.
