"So, I am 100% against a sales tax to fund more government programs."

Couldn't agree more. If I give 100 dollars to a volunteer group that feeds the needy, 100 dollars will be spent on food. That same 100 dollars given to the Feds will be spent on salaries for executive, administrative, and clerical staffs, pension contributions for Civil Servants, travel and training for staff, and assorted office supplies so they can distribute what might be remaining to feed the needy. That would be about 3 cents on the dollar .... which incidentally would have to be borrowed from the Chinese!

I wish a consortium of Samaritans, with government cooperation, (not likely since it would threaten the good life at the gov't trough) would brainstorm processes for relieving the government of handling charitable programs. Even with a "little graft" far more of each charitable dollar would reach its targeted audience, meaning it wouldn't take nearly as much money due to efficiency.
