Office Suites and MSO alternatives ...

<< Please stop pumping Microsoft Office 365. There is free office software that satisfies the needs of most people. >>

Most people or some people? Is there any free office suite for the PC Computing consumer/prosumer or professional user that matches the overall quality and capabilities of Office 2013/2016 or Office 365?

There are many reasons that the single most widely used Office suite software for Windows/Linux/MacOS by far in one of its editions for decades has been and still is provided by Microsoft. This despite the availability of many good free or lower priced alternatives.

Granted that Microsoft Office standalone or 365 may be overkill for many that participate here, may strain their budget, and consequently may not represent a justifiable purchase for them. It still potentially represents a justifiable value for many.

Kudos to Don, for pointing out here how he and his family uses Office 365 and for what price. I did not realize that Office 365 for 5 devices of various types, while certainly not inexpensive was as moderately costed as it actually is and it's a product I may consider to subscribe at some point in time although admittedly it might be a stretch.

While I am a 31 year vet of purchasing, using (and teaching others) Office suites from Innovative Software (later Informix), the DOS granddaddy of them all, then Lotus with AMI Pro and 123, and Microsoft after beta testing it for my employer on Win95, I currently use these alternatives on my Win10 system including one free one ...

I paid a whopping $36 for the Lifetime Kingsoft WPS license 14 months ago as I noted here on this board while their Memorial Day ½ price - 10% sale was in progress: Message 30594046

I also run Microsoft Office 2003 Professional on my 8 year old Win 8.1 Pro system (my tertiary system purchased originally as a Vista system with free upgrade t0 Win7 Home then upgraded to Win 8.0 Pro with Media Center for $39 courtesy of Microsoft, then 8.1 Pro). Because Office 2003 Pro was a bargain priced builders disk download the license is not transferable to my Win 10 system.

Thanks for listening.

Cheers, - Eric L. -
