"a 'wiser' military"
He said "smarter"... you know, better educated. The Cong were better versed in Greek existentialism than we were.

I am a big believer that the mind is strengthened through education in exactly the same manner that the body is strengthened through exercise. The more the better. And the more the stronger, and smarter a person will get intellectually

And everybody can benefit from some sort of education to the extent they can function better, and think better

Sun Tzu (not the poster here) made a number of observations about who wins and loses in combat in the "Art of War". Below is page 1, chapter 1. How many fails did we have? All five "heads". Oh yes, the same and bigger "fails" exist now. Oh, boy!

I. Laying Plans

1. Sun Tzu said: The art of war is of vital importance to the State.

2. It is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected.

3. The art of war, then, is governed by five constant factors, to be taken into account in one's deliberations, when seeking to determine the conditions obtaining in the field.

4. These are: (1) The Moral Law; (2) Heaven; (3) Earth; (4) The Commander; (5) Method and discipline.

5,6. The Moral Law causes the people to be in complete accord with their ruler, so that they will follow him regardless of their lives, undismayed by any danger.

7. Heaven signifies night and day, cold and heat, times and seasons.

8. Earth comprises distances, great and small; danger and security; open ground and narrow passes; the chances of life and death.

9. The Commander stands for the virtues of wisdom, sincerely, benevolence, courage and strictness.

10. By method and discipline are to be understood the marshaling of the army in its proper subdivisions, the graduations of rank among the officers, the maintenance of roads by which supplies may reach the army, and the control of military expenditure.

11. These five heads should be familiar to every general: he who knows them will be victorious; he who knows them not will fail.

The Vietcong had every advantage, so sometimes wisdom is situational. The Vietcong were fighting for their motherland. No one had to yell at them to fight. So they were working in unison. And everyone knows it is easier to defend territory then take it away form someone. The Vietcong were as serious as a heart attack with maximum motivation.

But look at our army, much of them did not want to be there, they were drafted for a dumb ass war and they knew it, so what was their motivation? So part of our army, the smart ones, were at odds with the true believers. Our army was divided against itself. Many hated the war and were just trying to stay alive and pass the time by getting stoned. Not the Vietcong, they were always serious and working in unison, and I am sure much braver as they were fighting for their homes and family. Many of our guys were just trying to get back to their families alive, which meant as little fighting as possible;

The VC also knew the territory and had a very smart military.

Our military was/is full of idiots, not the least of whom got us into that war or supported it. And our military lied constantly, I'll bet theirs didn't. And our military had half the nation protesting against the war.

Ask ron for his opinion, he wrote a book about it.

You believe the 'wisest' soldiers always win? That the NVA and Vietcong were a 'wiser' military than ours?
