Tommaso,

I own MAKOX, Korea fund and SKM. I have also followed Korea over the years. MAKOX performance is a lot worse than KF. Korea fund has been in Korea longest and has the best performance of all the Korea funds. However due to the premium in KF, MAKOX is more attractive if you think Korea will turn around. The best investment right now is Pohang Iron and Steel if you can buy it in Korea.

Best wishes and good investing.

Jyoti

Yes,I have followed it. The dollar/won relationship affects all the funds closed and open that trade in Korea. They just keep sinking Tommaso. I've been following all the Matthews Funds for about two months. Everytime you look they are down more. The crisis continues.

If you can't get a prospectus immediately for information on the funds you might check "Morningstar Mutual Funds" for their pages on MAPTX/MACSX.

You might also look at KEF (Korean Electric). I am trying to find a Korean telephone company to follow: that might be like Phillipine Long Distance some years ago, or the Mexican phone company in 1982.

I haven't been able to find the New Korea Grotwth Fund, or the offshore funds runs by International Investment Advisors of Conneticut. One might look at those.

Korea is just a fantastic place. The kids there are at school at 7:30 am and they don't get home until ten at night and they study after school on Saturday. Some of the biggest bookstores inthe world are in Seoul. Filled night and day. Remember the GNP of Korea in 1962 was the same as Ghana. These people are going to rise again.

The fat lady hasn't sung in Korea yet. However. IMHO.
