Looks like the sub 1k (or nearly so) systems are beginning to be recognized and perhaps accepted in the corp. market as well.

Ford's Visteon Unit, Microsoft, Intel To Develop Auto PC

Dow Jones Newswires -- January 8, 1998

LAS VEGAS (Dow Jones)--Ford Motor Co.'s (F) Visteon Automotive Systems will collaborate with Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) and Intel Corp. (INTC) to develop a personal computer platform for automobiles.

In a press release Thursday, Visteon said the platform will be based on Microsoft's Windows CE operating system and Intel microprocessors.

Visteon, an auto parts supplier, expects to launch a dealer-installed pilot version of the platform this summer.

Among the expected features will be voice-activated control of functions such as air conditioning and the radio, a global positioning system and cellular phone services.

That's one way to look at it.

On the other hand, they are not buying K6's, 6x86MX or MediaGX's.
