DS, I agree. Just a management ploy to inflate e.p.s. & tout how undervalued their stock is. The money would be better off used for R&D, pay-down of debt, or some other purpose.

Buying back shares does not necessarily mean a reduction in the float. It is just that the shares are held in the Company's treasury. less are available so that supply is effectively less. This is not the same as a reverse split, which is a desparate move which backfires. repurchases are commonly done by the biggies (IBM, MRK) and they are usually followed by the stock price going north.
