Gregor:

Thanks for your comments. I have enjoyed your posts tremendously.

You will note that I said there is nothing that "compels" the conclusion that Christ will return during our lifetimes. Your reference was to the parable of the fig tree. For the interpretation that 1948 (the year Israel became a nation) to be the pivotal prophetical year, one must accept the interpretation that the fig tree that Jesus spoke of was Israel. I am aware that some prominent writers espouse this interpretation, but I am not fully convinced that that is what the Lord meant. The Lord was speaking of being able to discern the times generally. Perhaps all He meant by the parable was that in the same way you know that summer is here when the fig tree blooms, you will also know the "season" by what is happening. There is also some genuine debate on the meaning of the term "this generation." It could mean this "race" or even all mankind. I don't believe the interpretation you suggest "compels" the conclusion that Christ will return within our lifetimes. It is, however, certainly worthy of serious consideration along with other interpretations of the passage you cite.

In Christ, Tom.
