Sun / DEC / HP /SGI comparison ; anyone feel free to add in
more to SGI's value-add...I could go on but here are a few points...

Sun - (seems to be the future chocie for UNIX shops)
- binary compatibility between all architectures & between
OS revisions ( this is a biggy that most UNIX's don't do)
- fully threaded kernel allowing multiple concurrent context
from a single process active in the kernel at any time
- most stable and standard UNIX, NCR to standardize on
Solaris now (SVR4 +spec1170)
- owners/mentors of Java technology
- leaders in new tech and working with other vendors to
make it standard
- third party vendors tend to develop/test/roll-out on Sun first

DEC - (for those who want flexibility for NT or UNIX ...)
- can run DEC-UNIX, VMS or NT on same box
- processors are probably the fastest
- have intel on the ropes ; )
- awesome clustering technology that will work with NT nodes
- awesome consulting arm; companies that have strong consulting
will capitilize on the Y2K ; ie. ORCL, DEC, and IBM have
strong consulting arms.

HP - (I developed on HP-UX so ....)
- can't say anything positive - they break binary compatibility
between architectures and OS releases and their UNIX has
never been quite standard (always lagged behind)
- don't try and get tech support!!!!
SGI -
- 64 bit already
- good graphic software + grahpic capability
- good low end price points
- SVR4 yet??
- binary compat between arch's ???
- binary compat between OS releases ???
- threaded kernel ? - what thread standard supported??
- ? any good mid-range boxes (between Cray and o2000?)
