These 'flash boys' get in front of trades, so they may provide liquidity, but it will be at your expense anyway. Their model is basically 'front running' orders.. As someone who has traded and lived off the markets for some decades now, I've seen some pretty funny things on my L2 and other displays when placing large orders. It's why this guy has worked to create a new exchange that actually routes trades through an additional 38 miles of fiber to slow them down and give traders a better chance...
Michael Lewis has done some great writing on this with 'Flash Boys'...

We aren't talking about the unfair things in life that we don't have control of. We are talking about something that damages other people and companies by selectively giving advantages to a few people. Not to mention, it does absolutely nothing for the economy. And it is imminently controllable.

You're saying that companies that have computers near exchanges should have an upper hand over every other company in the country. Who thinks like that?
