Do NOT throw out that bag!!! penni, this clearly looks tortuous to me, and should be good for at least half a million from the bag manufacturer, although I would expect that the rope handle manufacturer could be held jointly and severally liable as well. Clearly, the bag was not sufficiently flame retardant for use in baking. May I ask, did the bag clearly state (check the bottom if there still is one), "NOT for use in pie baking"??? Well, there you have it.

Penni,

Oh, I'm so upset by your Santa paint poisoning post. But first, I have to commend you for eating half a pie yourself. You put yourself in a sacrificial guinea pig mode for the sake of your children. But now I have to admonish you! You're never supposed to burn anything but plain old black-and-white or brown paper bags. Using comic strips to start a fire is a no-no. Using a Santa Claus paper bag with rope handles in the oven is even more of a no-no. I learned all this the first time I tried to cook a TV dinner (remember them?). I put the entire package in the oven--cardboard outside cover and all--and had an experience similar to yours.

Now I have a washing machine comment. This is trite, but I tried to organize my socks the other day since I was so frustrated at having no matching pairs. I am missing at least half. Is it the washing machine or the dryer that eats socks?

Penni, well at least it didn't burn down your kitchen.

You think you have had a bad day? After having my right leg go numb for the last two weeks, the doctor says I need back surgery! They want to pull some disk out of my lower back that's pressing up against a nerve. I think they call it a lumpectomy. Ouch!! I've been biteing my fingers all day thinking about it... So after Monday if you don't see me around much it will because I'm laid up in bed. Of course I may be able to rig my computer into my bed and in that case I will be bothering the heck out of you guys for two weeks. :-)

Time for me to go surf the web and become an expert on back injuries.

Michael
